Avoid Harrow Chongqing if you care about job security or your sanity. It’s run purely as a cutthroat business, and your contract isn't worth the paper it’s printed on. Over the summer, leadership sacked staff just two weeks before the new term began, leaving people stranded. They also slashed bonuses and quietly broke the news over email on day one back instead of facing us. Leadership is useless. Whenever hard decisions come down, they just shrug, pass the blame to "head office," and sneak out the door by 4:30. Meanwhile, they keep piling on extra work: mandatory Saturdays, boarding duties, and endless after-school clubs. Because enrollment is tanking, they let in anyone who can pay the tuition, meaning classes are full of students who don't speak enough English to access the curriculum—leaving teachers to pick up the pieces until 6 PM. The turnover speaks for itself. The heads of upper school, lower school, safeguarding, maths, and english have all either bailed, been demoted, or gotten pushed out. A lot of the remaining hires lack proper qualifications, the local expat housing is awful, and pay doesn't match the workload. Morale is dead, and half the staff are already planning their exit.
